Anil Baijal, Delhi New LG | Personal Details | Career | Achievements: The government on 28th December Wednesday appointed a Former home secretary, Anil Baijal name as Delhi’s new Lieutenant Governor. The post that fell available, when, Mr. Najeeb Jung unexpected move resigned from the post on 22nd December. The President Pranab Mukherjee approved Anil Baijal’s appointment on28th Dec. Wednesday evening after the recommendation from PM Narendra Modi’s Office.
Mr. Baijal was a 1969 batch IAS officer of the Union Territories cadre; he was removed as Union Home Secretary when the UPA government assumed power in 2004. Mr. Baijal has also been the vice-chairman of Delhi Growth Power, CMD of Air India and CEO of Prasar Bharti.
He has also served on the earlier executive council of (VIF) Vivekananda International Foundation think-thank and as an advisor of (NAG) National e-Governance Advisory Group.
During his 37 year career, Mr. Baijal held many different important assignments such as Union Home Secretary, Indian Airlines, Chairman & Managing Director Chief, Prasar Bharti Corporation, Executive Officer, Vice-Chairman, Development Commissioner, Delhi Development Authority, Goa and Counselor in-charge of Indian Aid Programme in Nepal.
He was also brought by Deputy PM L K Advani in 2004 to begin a mission for cleanup operation and provides DDA a more people-friendly and clear image.
Anil Baijal’s predecessor Najeeb Jung had run-ins with the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal accusing the LG of trying to work the Delhi’s administration by proxy. Mr Baijal will have to understand complicated jurisdictional concerns that arise out of Delhi’s exclusive position as a union territory working as the national capital.
